The market for luxury small cars is holding up well. After the success of the Fiat 500 and the imminent arrival of GM’s Adam, Citroen also wants to release a high-end mini-city car, so there is a possibility for a DS1 to hopefully be with us by 2014.
On the back of the great success of the DS3 Citroen would like to have a similar success with an inexpensive to produce, high end, smaller DS1.The C1 as we know it is also coming towards the end of its life and the new model should be out in 2014 which like the C3 and DS3 crossover would then lend itself to production of the DS1.
The DS1 would have different equipment and will be more luxurious in terms of style than the replacment C1. The front and rear are likely to be very different from those of it's sister C1 with a chrome grille, spoilers, L.E.D. lights and more.
Inside the car should be just as dazzling, the Citroen DS1 will come with luxury seats, dashboard mounted multi-media centre with a touch screen and GPS. Customizing will play its part with different styled roofs, colour coded alloy wheels in varying sizes etc.
In terms of engines and performance the C1 would use the new three-cylinder 1.0 68 hp, while the DS1 would also be entitled to 1.2 82 hp, and the 1.4 VTi 100 hp. The 1.6 THP 155 hp could also come into play in the high end version. Citroen would offer this little fireball at a price close to that of its rival namely the Fiat 500.
The DS1 and C1 may be unveiled at the Salon de l'Automobile in Geneva in 2014. Both models should be assembled in the factory TPCA in Kolin, Czech Republic.
